Just yesterday, we had reported that Premier Automotive Ltd had updated its official website to include the latest entrant, the BSIV compliant Rio diesel SUV, while also stating that the new model will be offered on sale from August 2, 2012 through select dealerships in select cities. And just a while back, Premier has rolled in the all-new Rio diesel SUV into the Indian market at Rs 6.7 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune.)
As expected, the BSIV Rio diesel SUV is being powered by the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine sourced from Fiat India Automobile Ltd (FIAL,) following the deal for engine supply that was signed between FIAL and PAL, back in May this year. The 1,248cc 1.3 Multijet powerplant is known to produce 72PS of max power and 183Nm of max torque, while delivering a fuel efficiency of 19 kmpl. The engine comes mated to a 5-Speed manual transmission.
The new Premier Rio 1.3 Multijet will be offered in four colour options – Black, White, Silver and Red.
Currently, there are three variants of the Rio SUV on sale in the Indian market, the 76PS 1.2-litre petrol, the 64.8PS 1.5-litre diesel and the newest 1.3-litre Multijet CRDi4 diesel. The Rio 1.5 diesel that is being powered by the older TUD5 engine, which Premier manufacturers under license from Peugeot could meet only the BSIII norms and therefore, could not be sold in BSIV markets. But now with the new 1.3-litre CRDi4 diesel powerplant, the Pune-based automaker would be able to expand its sales network into the BSIV cities.
Premiere Automotive Ltd that currently has a nationwide sales and service network of 55 dealers is looking to take the number of dealerships to 100 by December 2012. Also, the company is in process of setting up 200 authorised service outlets called, PASS or Premier Authorised Service Stations across the country, which will cater to support the Rio SUV in all aspects.
