Keep Battery Charged: One of the most common reasons for a car to breakdown or cause problems during winter is a bad battery. Have your car's battery and the charging system checked before the winter starts because cold weather can be really hard on batteries. Just to be safe, recharge your battery on regular intervals and do a basic check up at least once a month during winters.
Check Tyre Conditions and Breaks: Checking the tire pressure and tread depth is a crucial part of winterization process. Even during winters Indian roads tend to get slippery, especially during early morning and late night, which could affect the breaking power of your car. In that case do consider going for special grippy tyres that are more durable and can stand the harsh weather. Also during winter check tire pressure on weekly basis along with the brakes as well, owning to the fact that the braking system is the vehicle’s most important part.
Change Engine Oil and Coolant: Do remember to change the engine oil and the all the filters on regular intervals as old and dirty oil can degrade your engine’s performance during winter season. Also have your mechanic check the fuel, air and transmission filters at the same time. If you live in places that face severe cold weather and witnesses occasional snow or hail, than we would suggest you to change to winter weight oil type. Also do remember to clean, flush and put new antifreeze in the cooling system and do it at least once in a couple of years.
Keep Inside Cosy and Safe: One thing you need to be sure of is that your heaters and defrosters and working properly because during winters the inside of the car tends to get chilly and you will need your heaters for proper ventilation in case you want to close the windows and keep yourself cozy inside. Additionally also see to the fact that the wipers work properly and if possible go for winter wiper blades and use cold weather washer fluid.
Check the Lightings: Be sure to see that your headlamps, fog lamps and tail lamps are working properly and are positioned properly. If there are any minor problems don’t be lazy, get them changed as soon as possible.
