BMW, a German luxury car brand has silently introduced a new variant in its 5-series line up for the Indian market. Priced at INR 54 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the new 520d M sport variant is designed to offer high performance, versatility and dynamism. Locally produced at BMW Plant Chennai, the new BMW 520d M Sport is available in a diesel option at BMW dealerships across India. It also gets typical BMW M style and sporty genes that highlights the futuristic dynamics of the BMW 5 Series. The newly introduced 520d M Sport variant is powered by a 1995 cc diesel unit that develops 190 hp of power along with 400 Nm of torque.
With the 2013, the Indian market saw the arrival of BMW 5-series which has been in the global market since 1972. The company introduced the facelift version of its sixth generation model in the domestic market.
BMW 5-Series Exterior
The BMW 5-Series has retained its originality factor with major design changes derived from the M5. On the front facia, the kidney grille and bumper comes with refreshed look along with the crease lines on the bonnet provides a muscular and artistic look. The company logo embossed above the front grille close to the front edge of the bonnet adds an elegance factor to the profile. The new headlamps with Xenon lights are offered as a standard, while it also comes with an optional adaptive LED package that comprises of auto-cornering and auto-dimming. The newly redesigned air vents with chrome detailing around the fog lamps enhances look of the profile. The side profile majorly remains similar with minor changes to rear profile which includes slimmer L-shaped LED tubes in Tail lights as well as new flow lines on the rear bumper.

On the inside, the BMW 5-series bagged subtle changes to make the cabin more luxurious and comfortable. Feature wise, it comes with BMW iDrive along with 25.9 cm color display, Intelligent Lightweight Construction, BMW Navigation system Professional with 3D maps, Auto Start-Stop, ECO PRO modes (ECOPRO, Comfort, Sport), Brake-Energy Regeneration, BMW Apps, Park Distance Control, Rear View Camera and Connectivity through Bluetooth and USB devices, 50:50 Weight Distribution, 6 airbags, anti -lock braking system, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Side-impact Protection, Electronic vehicle immobiliser, emergency spare wheel and crash sensor.
BMW 5-Series Engine specifications and Performance
As far as the engine specifications are concerned, the BMW 5 Series is now available in four variants for the Indian market – Modern Line, Luxury Line, Luxury Plus and the M Sport. All the other three variants, except M Sports, come powered by the 2.0-litre straight 4-cylinder diesel engine that develops 184bhp of power and 380Nm of torque while the Luxury Plus variant develops 217bhp of power with 450Nm of torque. The power oriented M Sport variant is equipped with a 3.0-litre straight 6-cylinder diesel engine which develops 258bhp and 560Nm of power figures. The transmission duties are carried out by an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
BMW 5-Series Price and Competition
Talking about the price point, the BMW 5-Series gets a price range of INR 50.5 Lakh – INR 62 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and competes against the likes of Mercedes E-Class, Jaguar XF and Audi A6.
