The Indian motorcycle giant, Bajaj earlier this month did the successful launch of their new model V15 that comes under the ‘V’ Branding. The level of success made by the new 150cc bike will decide if the company will roll out more products under the ‘V’ brand umbrella. As mentioned by the company during the launch of V15, the V platform could be used in the near future for rolling out more models in ‘High Power Commuter Bike’ segment. Also read : Bajaj V officially unveiled; Launch in March 2016
“We always say we design platform. So, every platform is capable of more than one product but for now, there is only one product.” said to the Business Standard by Bajaj Auto Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj. With its unorthodox styling, Bajaj is ready to promote V brand in its High power commuter segment and later on add more models under the V brand. V15 is known for its use of steel from INS Vikrant; India’s first aircraft carrier. Currently the 150cc V15 is offered at a price of INR 61,000 and the bookings for the same have already began.
The use of metal from INS Vikrant has played a major role in the marketing and promotions of V15, but this supply of metal from INS Vikrant is limited. However, the company does not face any issues regarding that matter as said by Mr. Rajiv Bajaj “I firmly believe people are buying the product and they are buying it for the design, performance and price. Pankaj Kapoor (actor) said that even a blind man can buy the Hero Splendor in a very successful campaign. Now just because Pankaj Kapoor has left, it did not mean people stopped buying the Splendor. So tomorrow, when there is no more metal (of Vikrant) all that changes is the insignia on the fuel tank, the rest of the remains the same” Also read : Bajaj V could be a limited edition motorcycle
Experimenting with a platform is not new to automobile industry, Bajaj itself has done this with their Pulsar and discover models and has gained success in the market. The 150cc V15 is expected to reach the market by march 23rd, there may be more models coming up under the ‘V’ brand in future however they may or may not be using the same metal as V15 from INS Vikrant and hence the price for these models can go lower than the current range.
